Gubernatorial candidate Bruce Lisman this morning called on the Vermont State Senate to reconsider their vote on H.187, the mandated paid leave bill and include an exemption for small businesses. Mr. Lisman’s statement is below.
“Vermont’s small businesses are the backbone of our state’s economy and they are facing incredible economic pressures. Many of these pressures have been inflicted by Governor Shumlin and politicians who have stood by silently. This legislation is one more example that our elected officials are not listening to Vermonters.
“I oppose mandating paid leave on Vermont businesses. Senator Brian Campion was right to offer an exemption for small businesses with five or fewer full-time employees. At a minimum, both the House and Senate should adopt this sensible provision. It’s unfortunate that more legislators don’t seem to understand the consequences of putting more and more economic pressures on entrepreneurs and innovators in our state.
“I urge the Vermont Senate to reconsider their vote today while they still can and send a simple message that they support our smallest entrepreneurs and innovators.”
